WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25th
PHONICS: Check my website for word lists. Click on PHONICS WEEKK 2. We are on day 3. Students should review words from days 1 and 2 also. Remember to highlight or underline the base word (root word). Refer to the "frieze card" document for multiple examples. Students can add day 3 words to their charts they are making. There is also a "sight words to remember" document with words for students to practice spelling. These don't match the rule for this week, but are important to know how to spell. There are three passages to choose from: passage 1, passage 2, or passage 3. It doesn't matter which order students read the passages in. They can choose one to read each day and find the words that match the patter of adding -ed and -ing. Students should add any new words found to their word chart. Students can find words within their independent reading to add to the chart as well or think up words on their own.
READING: Our read aloud book today will be "Diary of a FLY." You can access this audio book by going to Cobb Digital Library through Clever. Type the title into the search bar. The book will appear through Tumble Books. Just press play video.
Our focus this week will be on Cause and Effect. I've posted practice sheets (with answer key) under the READING week 2 tab on my blog. After reading "Diary of a FLY" students should try to write ONE cause and effect sentence on their own.
Continue to try to complete one episode of Headsprout each day and then use the remainder of the thirty minutes to work on RazKids Level Up. Don't forget independent reading! In class we find a comfortable spot and students choose a stuffed animal as their reading buddy to read with/to. Hopefully students can find a cozy corner and a reading buddy at home.
WRITING: I'd like students to listen to the read aloud of "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day." We will be starting a lesson on Realistic Fiction. You can find samples of Realsitic Fiction under the tab WRITING NARRATIVE on my website. I'd like students to review some samples. Students can choose from the narrative writing choice board by clicking "What Can I Write About?" at the top of the page. Here is the link to the read aloud:

After Language Arts (phonics, reading, writing), this is a good time for a brain break!
MATH: Check Freckle and Zearn for Geometry. In your student math book, the Geometry unit begins in Chapter 12. A good resource to go along with the Geometry unit is https://www.mathlearningcenter.org/resources/apps (Access through Clever and use the "Geoboard" and "Pattern Shapes" apps.
Students can practice making triangle on the Geoboard app. Follow the link above from www.mathlearningcenter.org
I have also added a Geometry folder to the students' mailbox on Epic. Please let me know if you still need help accessing Epic.
WORD PROBLEMS: Students can also practice the word problems posted on my webpage under MATH WEEK 1 and MATH WEEK 2. There are a variety of word problem formats, many with missing addends.
SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES:
There are also books on Epic in their mailboxes in a folder titled "Life Cycles."
In addition, if you access Cobb Digital Library, click on databases on the left, scroll down until you see a source called "Pebble Go-Animals." There are some great articles about all kinds of animals. This is interactive for students and includes a short, cute video of each animal.
S.S. --If students have completed their lessons on MLK, our next historical figure is Juliette Gordon Low. Students can begin on Week 28.
SCIENCE: Students should continue working on Unit 3 starting at page 107 at their own pace
